Don’t you just love it when you walk into a shop and you see sale signs? I have to be honest, it was planned – I was at Ikea last week and was told that there would be a sale starting on 24th September so I should come back then for a great deal. The combined offer of 25% off doors and 25% of appliances mean that we were able to reduce our first quote by over £800 – so thank you to the kitchen designer who gave us the heads up on that. They weren’t voted ‘Best Value For Money Kitchens in the UK’ in the Which? Magazine survey 2013 for nothing.
If you are planning to design your own kitchen there are plenty of design stations where you can ask a staff member to assist you. Today I had help from a really great designer Mary who was able to add the final touches to the design. I have been leaning towards less upper cabinets in the kitchen – some images here – so she made the tweaks I requested.
There is so much choice involved in the process, from the handles, worktop, doors and Ikea has a considerable range of each item. Consider the doors and worktop options:
While waiting for Mary to cost up our choices I sneaked a few shots of the display kitchens:
Here is the display version of the style of kitchen we have chosen. The style is called Norje and it is made of oak. Each piece is unique so each door has an individual rough finish.
Since we are making considerable savings we also added on some metal units for the utility area in the garage and a new washing machine as we will leave all our integral white goods in our flat when we move out.
As for purchasing – we didn’t actually pull the trigger today as Ikea don’t do scheduled delivery for weeks in advance. They generally pick the items if they are in stock and deliver them the next day or so. We haven’t yet cleared a room or the garage for it to be stored in so we couldn’t commit to the purchase. We will however be back very soon to get it ordered!
